Flowers in the City part 2 sees us travel to downtown New York to be transported to an urban oasis. Similar to Paris (Flowers in the City – PT 1), there is a row of florists who not only have transformed their shops into mini rainforests but have also spilled out onto the streets.
The difference being the context; New York is renowned for tightly pack skyscrapers surrounded by narrow, grid streets, whereas Paris has wide roads, pavements, street trees and furniture situated next to a river. The florist shops here, are the ‘cherry on the cake’ in this urban realm.
The florist plants in New York are the only ‘green’ material you will find easily, making a stark contrast to the hard grays from the road and sidewalk which provides a temporal green space in the city.
