This secret garden is a marked contrast to Madrid Train Station’s ‘Botanical Garden’, however it is a pleasure to see green spaces emerge from railway stations. Coventry has utilised a small ‘forgotten’ space and transformed it into a urban garden.
The transformed space is sandwiched between the ‘Pumpkin’ café, Platform one, the waiting room and the taxi rank, so passengers overlook the garden from all four sides allowing them maximum benefit from the green qualities. It is encased by glass wall, which allow light to the plants.
Wildlife is present in the garden; fish provide flashes of vivid colour in the pond. Containers are host to caterpillars and ladybirds, at child friendly heights, which is a nice touch for smaller travellers.
